The Nintendo DS line of handhelds claimed yet another record this February, with new units sold totaling 613,000. This new record beats out the record of 597,000 set by the DS last February.
Yesterday at GDC, Sony revealed the name of their Wii-mote and Nunchuck controller. Called the PlayStation Move, their controller works in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye to sense the little colored ball on the end of the controller. This combined with the tilt sensors inside is said to be the next-gen of motion control. They announced a bundle with one Move controller, their "nunchuck", and the PlayStation Eye for "under $100", which translates to $99.99. No word yet on how much a Move controller by itself will run. Hey Xbox 360 owners, you ready for some new multiplayer maps on Modern Warfare 2? Good, because they will be available on March 30! If you are playing the game on PC and PlayStation 3, you need to wait until what has only been mentioned as "a later date". The details outside of the release date have not been revealed yet, but according to the viral site Mapathy.com, we can expect details soon.
The downloadable offerings from Nintendo this week don't really include a bunch of awesome games, but there are a couple that I wouldn't mind trying. First off, the Virtual Console gets Final Fantasy II (a.k.a. Final Fantasy IV) on the Super Nintendo. Then, WiiWare gets Max & the Magic Marker, and Dracula: Undead Awakening (originally a PSN title for the PSP). DSiWare also gets the Undead game, as well as a card game, a game that teaches Spanish, and a Flip interactive book.
This week we've got some big titles coming out. Yakuza 3 hit the PS3, Sam & Max 2: Beyond Time and Space lands on PC and Wii, BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger gets a PSP edition... and the one most everyone has been waiting for Final Fantasy XIII hits the 360 and PS3.
Another magazine cover, another game sequel announced. The next issue of Nintendo Power has revealed Scribblenauts 2, the sequel to what I thought was one of the best games released on the Nintendo DS last year. The new game, which is scheduled to be released this Fall, will not only add over 10,000 more items and 120 new levels, but they are also giving the game new controls (the only thing I really had an issue with in the original) and the ability to use adjectives with regular words. As long as that means I can spawn myself a radioactive penguin, I'll be happy!
