Why Are Video Games Still Not Taken Seriously?
Posted: November 17, 2008 - 5:40 am by markdelete
Frightening isn't it? You see when someone who does not understand video games asks you "What do you like to do?" and you reply with "Oh, I love playing video games.", they imagine your life resembling something like this lady's setup. They only reason that stigma still lingers is because, well this lady exists on the internet and games somehow are still not cracking the maturity barrier into mainstream society. What do you think will make gaming break the "kids stuff" barrier and become accepted as a mature hobby? Have you encountered someone thinking you belong in the same club as this lady? If so let us know how or just take in the pure horror of the Poke-room. Now imagine this room was filled with movie posters from different eras or possibly even someone's favorite sports team. Kind of loses the same effect, right? For those subjects are socially acceptable to be completly fanatical over. Yet when it comes to video games there are still lots of people that toss it in the kiddie corner with comic books and action figures. The same people who view it that way probably even play lots of Wii with their family or went out to see and enjoyed the Batman and Spider-Man movies. I find it increasingly bizare that what is considered "geeky" or "childish" dominates the entire pop culture landscape, taken in by the masses yet still can not be looked at without negative conotation.
