Amazon Launches Used Game Program
Posted: March 5, 2009 - 6:10 pm by Matt
Another day, another story about a company trying to get into the extremely profitable used video game business. GameStop has long dominated this market with their huge profit margins and aggressive growth. It looks like Amazon now wants a piece of that pie and now Amazon has introduced a new service titled Amazon Video Games Trade-In. Now here is a competitor that GameStop can't just shrug off. This new Amazon program launched today with about 1500 titles that can be exchanged for Amazon credit. The process couldn't be easer. You simply pick out the games you are looking to trade, submit your list and Amazon provides a pre-paid label that covers the cost of shipping. Once they receive the games, Amazon verifies the games and credits your account. As of right now Amazon has not announced any sort of store-front to sell these used game. It is possible that they are simply building up their stock before making these titles available or they are simply selling their inventory off to other retailers. Whether you like it or not, the buying and selling of used games is a huge part of our gaming economy. Hopefully with more and more companies entering the used business, we'll begin to see some more aggressive consumer friendly prices. Reader Comments
