E3 2009: Sony Press Conference Wrap-up
Posted: June 2, 2009 - 4:07 pm by Jeremy
Sony's E3 press conference has just finished up, and we have a complete wrap-up of the announcements made today. Hit the jump for the details. The first game shown was MAG. They showed off a live 256 player battle, and it is coming this fall. The first big announcement was, of course, the PlayStation Portable Go. This version of the system is for people who live a more "digital lifestyle". It will not replace the PSP or the UMD (at least for now). It is more than 50% smaller and 40% lighter than the PSP, it has those slide out controls, 16 GB of internal memory, integrated Bluetooth, and a M2 memory port. They are calling it "an object of desire". Sony is launching a new app today for your PC to go on PSN. And it's called Media Go. They have seen an increase of music on the PSP, so Sony is releasing a new music app called SenseMe (it sounds like Genius). All future PSP games will have both a digital distribution AND a UMD release. And the PSP Go will be released on October 1 in NA for $249.99. Sony is also taking their video service and adding it to the PSP as well. Gran Turismo PSP will have 800 cars and 35 tracks, and it also comes out on October 1. Next, Kojima takes the stage and announces Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker. It is being made by the main team from MGS4. It takes place 10 years after MGS 3, takes place in Costa Rica, involves the rise of Outer Heaven, and there looks to be 4 player co-op, with everyone playing as Big Boss/Snake. Coming in 2010. There was a PSP exclusive Resident Evil game announced for the PSP, coming in 2010. Over 50 PSOne titles are coming to the PSN, starting today with Final Fantasy VII! A new exclusive game from Rockstar is coming to the PS3. The game is called Agent. It is a global espionage game set in the 1970s, and they are expecting it to be a must-have title like GTA III was on the PS2. They showed a great demo of Assassin's Creed II, showing off a whole bunch of the new stuff in the game. Final Fantasy XIV is another online game, and will be exclusive to the PS3 and PC. It is coming in 2010. The first TRUE motion controller was the EyeToy for the PS2. Sony has been hard at work on new motion control. It is used with the PlayStation Eye. There is a wand-type controller with a colored ball on the end. The camera sees the wand and converts it into the game. The wand can be replaced with graphics on the screen. It is 1:1 movement. The wand has a trigger button on it. It looks like a blending of Motion Control Plus and Natal. They then announced ModNation Racers, a mix of LittleBigPlanet and JoyRide. Looks amazingly easy to make racetracks for the game. It took them like 5 minutes to complete a track. Coming in 2010. Then they showed The Last Guardian, the newest game from the minds behind Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. They said it was the third title in the trilogy. This game looks completely gorgeous. After that they gave us a look at Gran Turismo 5, which of course, looks amazing. It looks like they integrated NASCAR into the mix this time. Interesting. After that we got a demo of the first few minutes of God of War III, the final chapter in the series. It doesn't look all that different from the other three games in the series. Comes out March 2010. Reader Comments
