Sony Ceases Looking into UMD to Digital Upgrades
Posted: September 25, 2009 - 1:15 pm by Brandon

In a move predicted by several staff members here at Digital Something, Sony is no longer looking into upgrade options for PSP owners who purchase a PSPgo. So if you planned on selling your PSP and converting your UMDs to their digital versions with Sony's help, you're out of luck.

In talks with Kotaku, a Sony spokesman said, "We were evaluating a UMD conversion program, but due to legal and technical reasons we will not be offering the program at this time." While unfortunate, this just means that like PS3 owners with PS2 games, you're going to need to keep your PSP to play your PSP games. The creation of such a program definitely had its share of hurdles, but it is disapointing to see that they couldn't come up with something.

Will this announcement impact your decision of whether or not to buy the system?

Well, this should make up your mind if you wanted to "upgrade" to the PSPgo. Good job Sony! ~golf clap~
