Everyone Panic! EA Warns of Rock Bands Shortages
Posted: November 2, 2007 - 8:37 am by Matt

EA has sent out a warning that their upcoming blockbuster, Rock Band is likely to be in short supply until next spring.

Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitillo announced that: "If I were you, on the 19th of November, I would get in line outside of your favorite retailer, because we've got one hot product."

"This is definitely not a sprint. We're definitely not going to be able to put out enough inventory to meet demand in North America or Europe this calendar year or this fiscal. We expect this to sell through both the balance of fiscal '08 and fiscal '09."

Looks like you better start camping out now or come holiday season it'll be you vs. a crazy mom. And trust me, crazy moms always win.

Rock Band is set to launch in the US on November 19th for $169 on Xbox 360 and PS3, and later this year on PS2 for $159.

I don't plan on getting the game until they have the individual bundles sometime next year, but I would be worried if I wanted to get it right away.

Remember how long there were shortages with the first Guitar Hero?

There's a demo kit located at your local Best Buy (shameless plug) if you'd like to try it out. I'm going to be working there tonight, so I'll give it a roll on my break.

I hear the demo units have no bass pedal and that the bass drum plays itself. Kinda odd.

Really? that's odd. You'd think a demo unit would be set up for real... but then again I understand not wanting people stomping the shit out of the Bass pedal, ha

I sometimes think "shortages" are a lucrative business strategy to create more demand.
