Reports have been flying around the web claiming that Guitar Hero III for the Nintendo Wii outputs only mono sound. Reports first surfaced over at the official Guitar Hero Comminity site where forum user 'ooooolinooooo' posted the following message:

It says Dolby pro logic II, isn't it suppose to be surround sound? But there is no sound come out from my rear speakers. I got Wii version, what's wrong?

To back the claim, a few community members actually took the time to capture the audio that is coming from the game and have compared the seperate audio channels. Activision has yet to offer any official explanation but hopefully this is just a bug that can be worked out, although we are unsure about the patching capabilites of a Wii title.

Regardless, let me be the first on the net to say state my personal opinion of "this isn't really a bit deal". The majority of us are still playing our games on a 21" standard def TV. We still don't have Hi-Def let alone a Dolby Pro Logic reciever. But alas, the box does claim support for surround sound which the game doesn't appear to be producing. Hopefully we will hear word from Activision soon.
