Devil May Cry 4 Installation Issues
Posted: February 6, 2008 - 7:49 am by Jesse

Thank you for purchasing Devil May Cry 4 for Playstation 3. Please wait 22 minutes to play.

So I had heard something the DMC4 installation process floating around on the net and I wanted to get some information so I could set the story straight. That really wasn't possible until now.

The rumor that was floating around was that if you purchase Devil May Cry 4 for PlayStation 3, you are required to install 5GB of data onto the hard drive. Part two of this rumor was that there is no way around this and that you had to wait 22-25 minutes for the install to finish. Well, it turns out that this is in fact true but only for the PS3 version.

As you can imagine, we gamers let Capcom know how we felt about this issue and Capcom has responded:

"It's true: the first time you drop your DMC4 Blu-ray disc into your PS3 tray, you're going to be treated to an exciting 22-25 minute load process as the disc spins a few gigs of data onto your hard drive," writes Chris Kramer, senior director of Communications and Community. "While the game is loading, you get to watch a really nifty series of screens that completely catch you up on the DMC4 backstory. Think of it as compressing the last three 'seasons' into a single info blast, accompanied by some fantastic DMC artwork."

But I know what happened. Why should I deal with this when I own every game and have memorized the entire back story? Why should I care?

"The PS3 version of the game has near-Super Nintendo speed load times. You'll be amazed how fast levels load, the virtually instantaneous transition from cut scenes to action and that you’re continuously playing the game, as opposed to staring at loading screens of a door opening every time you move from one room to the next."

So there you have it people. If you're planning on picking up the PS3 version this week, just be prepared.

This whole thing got me thinking. If this works and Capcom can pull it off, what's stopping other developers out there from doing the same thing.

Metal Gear Solid 4 anyone...

I personally don't see this as a big deal at all. Especially if it will improve performance. Then again I come from the PC side of things so I'm already used to it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see more games do this on both the PS3 or 360, especially since they both are equipped with Hard Drives.

Who cares? "oh no. I have to wait 20 minutes ONE TIME so I never have to worry about load times again." Get over it. Be grateful you don't have to download compatible drivers to get it to work.

I hear you guys on this. I thought the load times were fast on the 360. I wonder if it has anything to do with all of the data on blue-ray disc.

Yeah, boo-freaking-hoo. This game is FAR too good to pass up for something like a long, ONE-TIME load. And one that makes your game better at that...

Oh, not to mention that almost every exclusive PS3 game I've played so far has had to install for at least a minute or so, anyhow. This is not new, people!
