Dead Rising versus Romero
Posted: February 14, 2008 - 9:26 am by Jesse

New Line Cinema is stating that the Xbox 360 zombie game too closely resembles the movie, Dawn of the Dead.

They are basically stating that the game is too similar to the movie. Both have zombies and the locations both take place in a shopping mall. It seems that they are wondering if this somehow infringes on any intellectual properties.

Capcom responded as many of us would have ourselves stating that "humans battling zombies in a shopping mall" is a "wholly unprotectible idea".

I have to say that I agree with Capcom on this. Not just because I loved this game and still play it to this day but honestly. Not to mention there was a label on the game case stating that it has nothing to do with Dawn of the Dead.

We'll keep a close eye on this just in case it gets serious.

If they had you fighting them off in a bunker.. it'd be "Day of the Dead". In a cottage, "Night of the Living Dead". Or in a city, "Land of the Dead".. Come on people.

I guess I'm wondering "If this is such a big deal to Romero, why did it take two years AFTER the game came out to mention anything about it?"

Cause Diary of the Dead is releasing soon and he needs to "protect" his franchise.

How DARE you insinuate that I don't "get" zombies. We are no longer friends.
