GameStop abandons HD-DVD

News came in tonight that GameStop is now the latest company to abandom the HD-DVD format. In a memo sent out of stores today all employees were instructed to immediately stop accepting HD-DVD players and discs for trade-in. All inventory remaining at the stores will be sold through and not replentished. This shouldn't come as a surprise to any as GameStop now joins a long list of companies who have decided to no longer support the format.

A quick call to a local GameStop was all it took to confirm the news. No word on whether or not GameStop will be offering discounts on remaining discs. Not that it matters anymore as Sony's Blu ray format seems be the uncontested winner of the format war.

Thanks to Tone for the tip.
