Metal Gear Solid 4; the Merc for hire to the highest bidder
May 22, 2007 - 8:24 pm
All of the delay’s, the constant multi-console rumors, and the insistance of Kojima & Co. to never give a clear cut answer. These are all signs that the Playstation 3’s beloved Metal Gear franchise is making it’s way back to a Microsoft console.
Just recently Konami announced the possibility that Metal Gear Solid 4: Sons of Liberty might ship as late as March 2008. While the reasoning for this was explained as “the driving source for profits in the new fiscal year, I have to wonder how can Konami make such a statement, with such a relatively small user-base for the PS3 out there? Make any argument you like, every other company see this. Ubisoft going public with their displeasure in PS3’s performance thus far(one has to wonder why Ghost Recon Advanced War fighter 2 has been delayed…again). THQ has cancelled the PS3 port of Saint’s Row. This is a continuing trend, that almost every notable source has pointed out. Konami is not new to this game. Back in the Sega Saturn/ PSOne days, the company was quick to put all of their most beloved franchises on Sony’s new money maker. Jump forward 10+ years, and while the tables aren’t totally turned, the legs on Sony’s side look a little shaky. Run down the list. Do it- I wont watch. How many titles are now either jumping ship, or going multi-platform. Sit back and think about it for a minute. Development costs have sky rocketed, and with a poor performance thus far in the race, Sony’s current outlook isn’t looking too bright. Any developer looking to support the new consoles has to figure out a way to at least break even. So. I leave it to you. Do you pay $400 to play Devil May Cry 4, or $600? While there are many reasons why things are the way they are, That question is at the very heart of the issue. Oh, bye the way…Grand Theft Auto IV Special Edition is $90...think about it.
